Listener’s Buffy/Angel Rewatch (B5.14)

Buffy 5.14: Crush

  • "Crush" is the title of Chapter 23 of my novel.
  • Oh, great, the Bronze is reopening. Again.
  • Awwwwww… Tara and Willow are dancing.
  • Credits shot of Anya dancing and her boobs bouncing like crazy.
  • Spike looks quite normal tonight.
  • I wonder if Marsters was directed to knock that bottle over, or if it was an accident and he just recovered well.
  • Did we really need that cash register effect?
  • Awwwwww again… Tara called Willow “honey”.
  • So Ben is a doctor, right? That makes him at least in his late twenties. I think that we kind of forget in watching the show that Buffy is only twenty-one. She really needs to date people her own age once in a while — and Riley doesn’t count. He was probably 23 or 24.
  • Sunnydale’s train station looks a lot like the Hogsmeade station. And it’s interesting how the train ends there — I mean, it’s basically Santa Barbara, right? That’s not really a terminus so much as a place you stop on the way to somewhere else.
  • I realize Tara’s not in the opening credits yet, but it’s nice how she’s in at least 50 percent of the Willow-in-the-credits scenes.
  • Oh, brilliant, Harmony’s in this one.
  • And Drusilla! Yay!

  • Dawn’s right there and, y’know, NOT DEAF.
  • Giles isn’t a parent. How does he know that going easy on Dawn is unwise?
  • I forgot Harmony and Spike are still quasi-dating.
  • Mercedes McNab has nice legs.
  • Oh yeah… Harmony role-playing as Buffy. That’s… just weird.

  • "You can tell it’s not gonna have a happy ending when the main guy’s all bumpy."
  • Did anyone else notice that Spike has looked more “handsome” in the past couple of episodes? Though that could just be that I got a new TV and the picture is better.
  • That little smile as she said “I don’t think Spike’s icky” was really cute. She does too have a crush.
  • Um… Buffy, Angel was a monster before the soul, too.
  • I love how Buffy says “it’s creepy” as she sits down in the outline of crime-scene tape.
  • "There’s nothing here." You guys walked around for like two minutes, barely didn’t look at anything, and then left?
  • I don’t know that Dawn would be laughing at Joyce’s story. It’s not THAT funny.
  • Don’t feel bad, Buffy; I’m not a fan of bourbon either. I prefer vodka.
  • Sometimes vampires are in vamp-face when they’re hanging out, and sometimes they’re not. I wonder which is the “real” face and which one they have to exert muscle control to hide.
  • Ouch. Landau didn’t hit her first “Spike” quite right.
  • We saw Harmony earlier. Where is she right now, exactly?
  • Speak of the devil.
  • I loved when Dru mouthed “boo-boo”.
  • That scarf does NOT match the rest of Willow’s outfit.
  • "I do beat him up a lot. For Spike, that’s, like, third base."
  • This episode is pretty heavy on the foreshadowing, given what happens next season.
  • He’ll go to the Bronze and steal a beer. Because that’s totally evil.
  • Willow looks awfully tall in this living room scene. Maybe she’s wearing tall shoes?
  • This couple is not close together AT ALL. They maybe could’ve done a little more than just kiss? Like, I dunno, rub up against each other?
  • How are these people not screaming? Did the girl, like, faint?
  • Given that Spike keeps all his stuff down here, having a torch running while he’s out isn’t the brightest of ideas.
  • Ohhhhhhhh, that’s right, this is when Buffy finds all of Spike’s obsession stuff.
  • I don’t think I buy Drusilla with the cattle prod.
  • "I like it when you’re all dour."
  • Drusilla and Spike really are very well-suited to each other.
  • "Yes, please. I like that game much more."
  • I thought she left him for a slime demon, not a chaos demon.
  • Well, Harmony, that’s your problem: you don’t succeed in relationships by changing other people. You succeed by accepting them for who they are and either loving them that way or leaving them.
  • Spike, you killed two slayers. You shouldn’t be having this much trouble with Harmony.
  • Drusilla hits like a girl.
  • Oh yes she can. Or, more accurately, Willow can.
  • That episode ended on a rather hard note.
