Listener’s Buffy/Angel Rewatch (B3.22)

Buffy 3.22: Graduation Day, Part 2

  • Previously on Buffy: Willow and Oz had sex, and then some bad shit happened.
  • I love how upset the Mayor is about Faith being gone. Great writing.
  • Just watching the guest star credits and seeing EVERYONE from the past couple of seasons at the high school is really cool.
  • The hand on the chest is awfully intimate for someone you’re not boinking.
  • Why would you not have kept trying? Just in case Faith didn’t cooperate, you understand.
  • Why the neck? Why not the wrist? I’m just saying, it would be much less painful and much easier on Angel. Plus, no unsightly scar on the neck.
  • Why do Whedonverse vampires roar, exactly? I haven’t figured that out.
  • Lots of “why” questions in this one, aren’t there?
  • I still don’t like that tattoo on Angel’s back.
  • Did Buffy just come from being drunk? I think she might have.
  • How convenient that Angel grabbed a quarter on his way out of the house.
  • That doctor’s voice sounds like someone else who’s been in the Whedonverse. I wish I could place it.
  • "Young man" — didn’t we establish that Angel is more than 100 years older than the Mayor?
  • I. HATE. Slayer. Dreams.
  • "Little Miss Muffet counting down from 730." Whedon KNEW he was gonna kill Buffy. He KNEW it. Even now.
  • If Buffy had an antecubital cut-down, she should have a bandage on her arm. Cubital = elbow-related, ante = front.
  • I always feel like the season finales wait too long to start the action. This one, yes, but also “Chosen”, and even “The Gift” to some extent.
  • "We attack the Mayor with hummus." Thank you, Oz.
  • A “key” reference less than ten minutes after the ending of the dream.
  • Oh, oh no, the soldier memories. And a million fanfics were born that day. Possibly more.
  • Why does the Mayor use so many vampire henchmen?
  • There’s always SOMETHING Buffy needs to get, isn’t there…
  • Percy and Harmony are the influencers, aren’t they. That’s weird.
  • It must be hard to act an awkward kiss like that. Plus it looks like Cordy’s about to choke him to death at the end.
  • Let’s try again, shall we?
  • Hi Jonathan! And Larry!
  • I could’ve SWORN Buffy’s bite was on the left side in future episodes. (Her left, our right.)
  • I guess when you kill off most of the students over the course of the years, you can get away with not hiring a crap-ton of extras.
  • "Harris" and "Chase" shouldn’t be next to each other. Nor "Rosenberg" and "Summers".
  • The mayor’s speech begins with only 13 minutes left in the episode. How are we going to manage a massive fight in such a short time?
  • "My God… he’s gonna do the entire speech!"
  • Okay, this speech has indeed gone on way too long.
  • You can see now where Harry Groener is composited onto a screen right after the sky goes dark.
  • "I had this whole section on civic pride…"
  • That is one snakey demon.
  • Everyone is running into the school. Which is going to be blown up. That makes sense. Really.
  • Harpoon guns. Clever.
  • All these people seem awfully good at archery.
  • In some long shots, Percy looks a LOT like Riley.
  • Larry is down! I repeat, Larry is down!
  • I think we needed another three or four seconds on the death of Snyder. Maybe a quip.
  • THERE IT WAS! I’d never noticed before but we actually SAW Harmony get turned.
  • There was better CG than this in 1999. But I guess this episode was too expensive already with the extras, the fire, the fight scenes, the weapons, and destroying all the school sets. I can forgive it.
  • How did they get all the books out of the library in only a couple of hours?
  • "Well, gosh!"
  • Percy survived.
  • Jonathan survived.
  • "It’s rather a lot of pain, actually."
  • Xander’s last line in the battle didn’t work for me. I’m just noticing that now.
  • Did you notice that the heroes in the main battle scenes all had bright colors on to set them apart from the masses? Willow in yellow, Oz in reddish, Xander in white, Cordy in blue.
  • "Fire bad, tree pretty."
  • Aaaaaaand Angel’s off the show.
  • Let’s let Oz have the ending line, shall we?
  • "We’re taking a moment. And we’re done."
  • (I’m not counting the stuff they said as they walked off.)
  • Part one aired 5/18/99. Part two aired 7/13/99. I bet that really pissed off a lot of people back then. 14 years ago. I’m OOOOOOOLD.
